When it comes to play any type of game, be it poker, blackjack, or slot machines, it is important to have control over your money.  I’m not necessarily saying quit playing while you are actually ahead of yourself.  I’m also not saying that you should just go home if you are losing.  Take a look at the below tips that will help you when it comes to money management.

One of the most important factors to ensure that you properly manage your money is to only play games you can afford.  Don’t play stakes at $50/$100 if you honestly can’t afford it and don’t feel comfortable playing at that skill level.  If you feel more comfortable at the skill level of $20/$40 stakes, then play at those games.  You want to be sure to play games that you can afford to play and that are even with your skill level of play.  The higher you move up, the smarter your opponents are and you will find that your bankroll can deplete relatively quickly, which is something that you do not want.

You want to make sure that you can afford to play, but you also want to make sure that you can afford to lose.  It is inevitable that you will lose at some point in time in poker, in blackjack, in any kind of gambling game.  You just want to try to minimize your losses so that you aren’t losing too much.  You should set a pre-determined amount of money that you can spend after the rent or mortgage is paid, the groceries are bought, and the utility bills are paid.  Don’t ever use money to play on that you need for financial reasons.  It is simply not a smart choice.

If you ever feel as if you are losing your ability to play, emotionally and mentally, then you should take a break.  It is obviously needed and will help assist you from losing money without need.  This often happens when you have a few losing hands at the poker table or a few losing spins at a slot machine.  You try to win back what you have lost, but you will only be losing more money.  Just take a break, get some fresh air, and then come back to the game when you have loosened up a bit and are in better control of yourself.
