When it comes to bluffing at the poker table, it can be a bit problematic.  When bluffing, you don’t know whether your opponents will call you on your bluff or if your bluff will be believed and you win the pot.  Whatever the case may be, take into consideration the following tips as they may help you when deciding whether or not to bluff:

First of all, don’t ever bluff just to be bluffing.  Only send out a bluff if you really truly believe there is even a chance of winning.  However, don’t’ just bluff to show that you can do it as your opponents will be able to call you on some of your bluffs – not all bluffs are completely obscure.

Only attempt to bluff when you are up against no more than two players.  If there are more than two players still in the game, it will be difficult to push a successful bluff through so only do so if you have very high expectations in succeeding.

Stick to sending your bluffs to decent players.  Stay away from the experts and fish or those that simply don’t know what they are doing.  The experts will more than likely be able to see right through your bluffs while newbies will simply call.

If you have a poor hand or a draw hand and are thinking about bluffing in on the flop or turn, don’t.  If there are still more cards to be shown then simply try semi-bluffing.  Semi-bluffing will either force opponents to fold or you will get the card that you need.

Focus on weaker players when bluffing.  Find those players that are checking, or calling, rather than those that are betting and raising.  These players will be easy to fool.

Use your bluff to signify a specific hand such as a straight or a flush.  These types of bluffs will have a higher success rate than those that simply come out of nowhere and have nothing to go on.  So, just pay careful attention to what you are doing.

If you want your bluffs to be heard and believe, it is better play as a tight and aggressive player rather than a loose and conservative player. Consider the facts – which one would you believe was bluffing if you were the opponent?

If you’ve got what it takes to bluff and succeed, then by all means do it.  Otherwise, be careful on your bluffing habits and behavior.  Stick to these tips outlined within this article and do further research into the art of bluffing.  Most of all, you want to be sure you know what you are doing and how to do it properly in order to find success in bluffing.
