I have blogged before about the fantastic functionality and opportunity that Pokertube offers poker players. Although there are many good poker coaching sites that you can pay a subscription fee to in order to stream good coaching videos there is also poker video you can access for free! Watching video is a great way of improving your play and it seems like Texas Hold’em poker is progressing towards a more virtual learning platform rather than reading books or attending seminars.
My professional Poker friend would disagree with me saying you can learn a lot from poker strategy videos from Pokertube as he is a big fan of the learning that comes from the paid subscription services. Of course you get more specific training from the training sites but you can become part of the poker community yourself by posting your own videos at Pokertube.
Try sending a video to a Poker training site and getting it published. Good luck! They are very picky about who they use as trainers and who can blame them because players are paying for the privilege of watching the training videos so they need to be at a very high standard. Fortunately, we have Pokertube and a ready audience to critique your play.
My friend posted a screen capture of his cash game play and posted a game lasting around 19 minutes complete with commentary. Unfortunately he is a relatively new player in the cash game environment and some things that he said he was doing were less than what others would call optimal poker strategy! Some of the things he said were just plain wrong! He emailed me and said “I am taking a battering in the comments, is there any way to turn them off?” I emailed back and said that was the worst thing he could do. We reviewed the comments together and found that amongst the negative posts (which everyone gets!) there was some good advice thrown in. I told him to use that feedback to improve his next video. I am looking forward to seeing it.
Going back to having a ready audience, you can expect anything from 600 to 1000 video views when you post a good poker video. If you want to build your poker profile then using Pokertube is a great way of doing this. If you have a poker crew (and a decent video camera and microphone) you can record not only good poker screen casts but also group video footage that will help define who you are and create interest in you as a group. Like video bloggers, people will look forward to seeing the latest content from you and various members of the group.
Along with showing everyone how good you are people use the Pokertube video to show people how their favourite poker room works. I posted a video using my favourite poker room bwin.com and people commented on how good it looked and that they would sign up. Affiliates could benefit from this also. Along with promoting your own play, you can support your favourite poker rooms this way.
I have known good poker vloggers get sponsored into events and gain a large online presence that leads to other opportunities. You are losing nothing by trying to build your poker profile using the various internet media things that are available, and quite often free to use.
