In the first article we looked at some of the ways your poker site can be developed and what type of things you can do to get some hits. This article is going to focus on more modern techniques that Texas Holdem poker fans love on modern poker websites. I use the following techniques on my poker website and they have resulted in thousands of additional hits to my site. Using these in additional to those discussed in the opening article could result in amazing results.

Twitter & Facebook

Social media is a great way of staying in touch with the poker playing community. Many of the poker players I have met on https://poker.bwin.com/, where I play most of my online poker every week, are members of Twitter and Facebook and I have been known to ask for usernames in the chat so I can keep up to date with the tweets of my opponents and online poker friends!

When I post an article or interesting video about poker I tweet this to my followers on the social network websites. This alerts them that there is something worth seeing that is new on my site. I am essentially asking them to go and take a look at the content that I have just posted. Rather than wait for them to pass by the site, I am reminding them it is there. Twitter allows you to post links and if you use Tweetdeck it can automatically shorten URLs as you have a limited amount of characters to make your tweet. You should see a surge of visitors when you make your website announcements.

Facebook works in the same way, but offers a few more interactive things like posting on each others walls and sending private messages. This is more of a friend based format so whilst you can be focused on your site, make sure you do not overdo it, much like the way you would use a forum you have to engage in the community part of the site and limit your urge to be too focused on getting hits. You do not want your friends to view you as a salesperson!

Poker Radio/Podcasts

This is my secret weapon to getting a dedicated follower base of hardcore poker fans!

Using talkshoe, a free Voice over Internet proxy (VOIP) service to broadcast my shows, I was able to have a poker podcast recorded and broadcasted live without driving myself to insanity learning complex coding (I’m a poker player after all). People can even call into the show live via XLite, Skype or even their mobile phone. Talkshoe gives the user some embed html web code so the player shows up in your posts and your readers can listen to the show directly from your website. This made my site look really professional and after I had developed a few sound clips we were able to get a professional sounding weekly show going and our amount of listeners grows steadily each week. They can even subscribe via iTunes and receive the show automatically, very nice!

This type of thing, once set up, will help develop your poker website into something much larger and I highly recommend it. I have great fun each Tuesday night broadcasting my show.

During the last two articles I have given you many ideas on how to develop your poker websites. Using Search engine optimisation, videos of you playing on sites like my favourite online poker site bwin.com, good quality articles delivered consistently and clever use of Facebook, Twitter and Internet radio you really can deliver a unique product that people will re-visit. Comment on other blogs and they will return the favour.

Good luck and do not forget to send us the link to your fantastic new poker site.
