Let’s start off by talking about what counterfeited means when playing Omaha as this is a term that will be used below and may even be used sometime while you are playing so it helps to understand the meaning of the term.  When you are counterfeited in Omaha, it simply means that your hand is weakened due to the fact that a low card you hold in your hand has been duplicated by being placed on the board.  To explain further, it just means that if you have a five in your hand and when the turn card comes, another five is laid on the board – you are counterfeited at this time.

So, now, let’s begin.  Each of these hands can have different variations and in most cases below, only one variation is stated (some may have an alternative stated, though).

Say, you have an Ace of hearts, two of hearts, three of clubs and a four of spades (or even a five of spades).  You can have three low cards and a suited Ace, which currently makes up three different hands – the nut flush, the nut low, and a straight.  By starting with a hand that contains low cards in sequence, you are already one step ahead of your opponents and if a duplicate card were to be shown on the board, you could say that you are on defense.  By all means, this is the utmost best starting hand in Omaha.

An Ace and three of clubs as well as a King and four of hearts means than you have a double suited Ace and King that allows you to have combinations of two flushes as well as two straights.  You also have protection against the hand being counterfeited and a relatively good low strong hand.

If you were to find yourself with a starting hand that consisted of two Aces unsuited with a two and a three, one of each being the same suits as the Aces (Ace of hearts, Ace of diamonds, two of diamonds, and three of hearts), then you will see that you on the obvious side of things that you have a pair of Aces.  You then of course also have two draws for the nut flush as well as one for the nut low.  This is a low hand, but can get you somewhere.

Two Aces (hearts and diamonds) and two Kings (hearts and diamonds) is another very strong starting hand.  This is one of the most powerful hands seeing that you have a double suited Ace King hang.  What can you make with this?  Two flushes, a straight, full house (if the board favors it) as well as sets.

The last hand that we will speak of today is a hand in which only three of the cards are properly coordinated; however, if you are in a large game with a large amount of players putting forth into the pot then you will find it is a strong hand.  This hand consists of an Ace of hearts, two of hearts, 3 of spades, and an 8 of diamonds.  You’ll have your protection for counterfeit as well as a nut low draw.
