Poker has been played for hundreds of years. It’s been said that it originated as early as the 1700’s. The most popular organized poker tournaments the World Series of Poker originated in 1970.

Since the World Series of Poker has started it allowed poker players to have a standard to live up to and a prize to win. Poker has since spread worldwide and is still spreading into some countries such as Russia.

We’ve compiled a list of some of the best poker players around the world. The list includes players from the beginning of the World Series of Poker to some of the newest players that just started playing the last couple of years.

Famous Poker Players Sorted by Country

Many of the famous poker players in the world got their recognition in the World Series of Poker by making it to the final table. Many of whom won a bracelet at one point or another.

Just recently for the first time ever the World Series of Poker has expanded to have events outside of Las Vegas. It’s called the World Series of Poker Europe and it was started in 2007. This has allowed for new records to be set and new bracelets to be handed out.

The minimum legal age to gamble is 21 in the United States. However in the United Kingdom it’s only 18. This allowed for Annette Obrestad the youngest person ever to win a World Series of Poker bracelet. She did it the day before her 19th birthday.

There’s also been mention of possible expansion into Egypt or South Africa in the next few years.
