With the last name Moneymaker, Chris is an American professional poker player born in Georgia that surely brings in the money. Moneymaker went to high school in Farragut, Tennessee and later earned a Master’s degree at the University of Tennessee, in accounting. When he received the seat to play in the 2003 World Series of Poker event by winning a satellite event, he was working as an accountant – putting his college degree to use at the time. He won the 2003 World Series of Poker main event for winnings equaling $2.5 million and well earned his poker reputation, as it was his very first attempt at a live tournament.
Moneymaker quit his full-time job as an accountant when he won the WSOP main event in 2003 to be a spokesperson for PokerStars as well as Harrah’s Entertainment. He is known to participate in the larger buy-in tournaments. Since his win in 2003, he has played in the World Poker Tour where he finished second during the 2004 Shooting Stars event where he earned winnings that totaled $200,000. Moneymaker has also had one in the money finish in the European Poker Tour.
Moneymaker played in the 2008 WCOOP where he finished 6th in Event 5 and finished 5th in Event 16 where he took home a total of over $167,000 in winnings. He is currently married with a daughter, Ashley, who was born 3 months prior to his 2003 WSOP win. He has written his own autobiography, which was published in March of 2005.
Chris is a member of the Team PokerStars Pro. Moneymaker’s live tournaments winnings, as of 2008, exceed $2.8 million and will not stop there.
