Self Made Man Becomes Self Made Poker Man

John Gale is from a small town outside of London called Bushey. He was born and raised there with his family and still lives there today. Born December 13th of 1953 he has only recently become a poker star. John started playing cards and poker when he was younger as a kid. Rather than being a gambling guru at a young age, John dropped out of school when he was 16 and started working in retail. Finally he became a management consultant to help provide for himself and his family. During this time period of about 20 years he started his own management consultant company. While owning his own company he helped other companies prepare to go on public on the stock market, married his wife, and had four kids.  Even against his wife’s wishes he became a regular poker player at a local casino and then moved on to online poker.

In late 2004 John finally got his shot at poker. Playing a satellite tournament on pokerstars.com he beat all of the other players to take first. This got him a seat in the 2005 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure against 461 other poker players from around the world. After scratching and clawing his way through all 461 players he took home first place which totaled to be $890,600. When he returned to his business of being a prestigious management consultant, he realized that he was not enthused to be back. He decided to sell the company and play professional poker. The decision wasn’t easy as his wife already opposed gambling. However, she couldn’t debate the fact that he won more in tournament then he could make at his job. For him it seems the decision has been well worth it.

Since that first win John has played in several other events that he has won and been the runner up in. His second biggest win was in the Pot Limit Hold’em event in 2006. At the World Series of Poker he took home his first bracelet. Since then John has won more than $2.8 million.

John spends a lot of his time on the road now being a poker player. He’s become a regular winner of the Bellagio’s weekly tournament and prefers international poker games. Even though John is considered a newbie of the poker scene, he has proven that he’s not just a one hit wonder and that he can stand his own at a poker tournament.
