Flying Man Soars to the Top in Poker

Eddie was born in 1953 in Cologne Germany. He was into cards at an early age like many others. However, he felt that poker was only a game of luck. Because of this he decided to do the logical thing and go to school. When looking for a school to attend he didn’t realize that it was a going to change his life. He had been debating between Germany and Arizona and because of a coin flip he ended up in Arizona.

While taking classes to learn to fly jumbo passenger planes, Eddie frequently visited Las Vegas. This is when he was to learn that poker wasn’t a game of luck as he thought. He noticed that he would see a couple players winning repeatedly and decided he was going to learn how to play. After graduating he started flying for Lufthansa Airlines. To help continue his poker education Eddie kept reading books and finding time to hit the green felt. He usually had to play while in the United States because the game wasn’t very popular in his native land yet.

However, to his advantage in 1995 the poker rage finally caught on in Europe. This was a huge advantage for Eddie because he could play more often in his area rather than having to travel internationally. After playing in tournaments in Europe for five years he decided to return to where his poker background actually started… Las Vegas. It was 2001 and the World Series of Poker was holding its Limit Omaha event. This event wasn’t for the weak of heart as it had some of the best players like Allen Cunningham and David Sklansky playing in it. He managed to make his effort worth the trip as he took home his first World Series of Poker bracelet that year. Although that was just the start for him after winning he not only kept playing but returned again in 2003 to claim another bracelet. However, in 2004 he fell short of winning and ended up in 15th that still paid him a nice amount of change, $275,000 to be exact.

Eddy is considered to be one of Germany’s best poker players. He also appears on German sports TV as a commentator while maintaining his job, which he been doing for over 26 years now. He’s also a member of Team FullTilt. Besides his 2 bracelets he has totaled over $1 million dollars in winnings and plans to keep going.
