Surgeon Turned Poker Man

Keiner was born February 8th 1959 in Wetzlar, Germany. While growing up he did several of things. In 1977 he did two years of officer training. Following that he started his medical studies in 1979. When he finished his studies in 1985 he traveled around for surgical specialist training in several places including Wisbaden, Johannesburg, Newcastle, and San Diego. In 1994 he decided to open a clinic for cosmetic surgery in Wetzlar, Germany.

However, since 2001 he only operates as a cosmetic surgeon about 10 hours a month. Keiner also used to ride motorcycles and participate in several Grand Prix. He was also involved in the Japanese stock market as well. He was very successful during his stock market endeavors at the time. On top of all of these achievements he also helped develop the portable ultrasound device that is used for cosmetic treatments.

His first contact with poker didn’t come until 1993. While he was in surgical training he discovered Limit Texas hold’em. He was quickly fascinated by the game and its concepts and continued to play. In 1995 he found Seven Card Stud in a German casino. While playing at the casino he played in several small tournaments. Finally he decided after winning several of these tournaments to try a shot in something bigger. He went to the European Championship Pot Limit Seven Card Stud which was held in London. For a while he decided to take a break from tournaments and focused mainly on cash games. His most well known achievement thus far has been a Seven Card Stud World Series of Poker bracelet in 2007.

Since he started playing he has managed to total more than $870,000 and has become known as one of the true gentlemen of the game. Besides being a strong player in both tournaments and cash games he played the role of captain in the inaugural Poker Nations Cup. During this poker cup he brought the German team very close to an upset victory over their opponents.
