Businessman That Made Russian Poker History

Alexander was born in April 21st of 1971 in Arkhangelsk USSR. He is now based in Moscow, Russia. He still works in business while playing poker and has no intention of flying around chasing tournaments at this time as he spends time with his wife and two kids as much as possible. He originally started playing poker in 1997. Although he’s not known amongst many people in North America he is well known in his home town.

He’s had several successful tables over the time he’s been playing but in 2007 he made a big name for himself. At the World Series of Poker Alex took home a gold bracelet from an Omaha Hi-Lo game. He is the first Russian citizen to take home a World Series of Poker gold bracelet setting a milestone for his country.

During the event he charged through the largest turnout in history. 690 entries were counted which beat the previous year’s best of 670. He also managed to cash out of the game with the first place prize of $228,446. Alex has racked up a number of poker tournament wins in Europe and has an impressive history in cash games as well. He also has several European final tables and some World Series of Poker cashes to his name.

This includes wins at the Austrian Masters, the Helskini Freezeout, and the Pacific Poker Open in the U.K. Alex prefers stud poker and plays a lot of Texas Hold’em. He has admitted that Omaha Hi-Lo isn’t one of his best games but he did manage to outplay 689 other people for first place. He also took a shot at the main event at the World Series of Poker as well. He managed to make it all the way up to 4th place earning his largest cash today of over $1.8 million.
