There are various stages of play in Texas Holdem. The betting round begins after each round of community card being flipped on to the table. The the third round of flipping the community card or action of dealing the third round of community card is know as River in Texas holdem. After this round is the final betting round which is followed by the showdown.
If you are an expert holdem player then its highly unlikely that you might get to this stage of the game as you would have won it even before the river round. Anyways the experts don’t need as much time to form a winning hand hand and rake the moolah.
If any of the player has a strong hand the chances of river reduces. The river card is the last community card and is your last chance to form the best hand possible before showdown.
Its important that you analyze the strength and determine your game strategy if you had formed a hand or had a hand before river. There are a few mistakes which most of the players make while paying the river stage.
The first one is to call a losing bet which costs you the price of the bet. The second one is to fold your hand which can turn out to be and expensive affair. If you believe that you have a slight chance of winning, you should call at this stage.
In the low limit games the pots usually gets large and by the time the river card or the third round of community card is dealt, the probability of winning would definitely be high. However, don’t be too focused on attempting a check-raise and hope to drag the game to the river stage just because the odds of winning are high.
Most of the times the players in a low limit game will call the bet hoping that the player is bluffing. Use this to your advantage and make sure others pay for it.
Always take a close look at the river card and try to figure out how your opponents could use to form a better hand than you have. It need not be said that if there is no need to show your hand then it’s best not to do so. Remember, in Holdem, any information is valuable and it can turn out to be of great advantage during the game.
This is one reason why you would not want to show your hand. When you do show your cards you are giving out valuable information to your opponents and you might as well make them pay if they have to see your cards.
Also, during the showdown it would make sense for you to hold on to your card until the pot comes your way. This helps if there are any issues regarding the winning hand. Stick to these rules and you will find yourself in a comfortable position.
